Akron[1], Ohio[4] hosts one of the larger Bhutanese refugee communities in the American Midwest. Resettled primarily through the UNHCR program beginning in 2008, the community has grown to become a significant presence in the city.

Community Contributions

Bhutanese Americans in Akron have opened businesses including restaurants and grocery stores, purchased homes in previously declining neighborhoods, and established cultural organizations that host Dashain and Tihar celebrations.
