Visa or residence for a foreign spouse / family member

Long-stay visas for foreign spouses, dependants, and accompanying family of Bhutanese citizens or work-permit holders.

Eligibility
Family members of Bhutanese citizens, civil servants, or expatriate workers with valid permits.

Citizenship by naturalization

In person

Application to become a Bhutanese citizen by naturalization under the 1985 Citizenship Act, decided by His Majesty the Druk Gyalpo.

Eligibility
Long-term lawful residents meeting language, residency, and conduct requirements under the Citizenship Act 1985.

Birth registration / birth certificate

Free healthcare at all public facilities, from Basic Health Units up to JDWNRH (national referral hospital).

Bhutanese citizens, lawful residents, and visitors. Bring CID or passport.

Medical referral abroad (RGoB-funded)

In person

When in-country care is not available, the Ministry of Health refers patients abroad — primarily India — at government cost.

Eligibility
Bhutanese citizens, on the recommendation of a treating physician, after JDWNRH referral committee approval.
