The most prominent monastery in Pema Gatshel district, dramatically perched on a mountain ridge at approximately 2,800 metres elevation with panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and the southeastern Himalayan foothills. Founded in the 18th century by Lama Yongla Mipham Tenzin, the monastery is an important pilgrimage site in eastern Bhutan associated with several local legends and believed to possess significant spiritual power. The site requires a steep uphill hike from the nearest road.
