Vara: A Blessing

Directed by Khyentse Norbu (Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche), this 2013 film is an adaptation of a 2,500-year-old Sanskrit story by Shudraka, transplanted to a remote Bhutanese village. The narrative follows a pious man who discovers his beautiful wife in a compromising situation, exploring themes of devotion, jealousy, and the nature of truth through a Buddhist philosophical lens. The film screened at the Toronto International Film Festival and several European festivals, continuing Khyentse Norbu's tradition of embedding Buddhist teachings within cinematic storytelling.
