The administrative capital and commercial center of Trashigang district in eastern Bhutan, perched on a hillside at approximately 1,070 m elevation overlooking the Drangme Chhu gorge. Trashigang (meaning "auspicious mountain") is the largest town in eastern Bhutan and serves as the gateway to the remote Merak-Sakteng region and Sakteng Wildlife Sanctuary. The town is dominated by the imposing Trashigang Dzong, built in 1659, and hosts a vibrant weekly market drawing traders from across eastern Bhutan and the Indian border.
