A monastic school and Buddhist philosophical college in Trashigang district, the most populous district in eastern Bhutan. The shedra provides higher Buddhist education to monks from the eastern dzongkhags, reducing the need for students to travel to western Bhutan's monastic institutions. Eastern Bhutan has a strong tradition of both Nyingmapa and Kagyu Buddhist practice, and the shedra serves as an important centre for preserving the region's distinctive religious heritage and training a new generation of Buddhist scholars.
