The district hospital for Trashigang Dzongkhag, eastern Bhutan's most populous district with over 51,000 residents across fifteen gewogs. The hospital serves as a secondary referral point for eastern Bhutan, complementing the Eastern Regional Referral Hospital in Mongar. It also supports healthcare for the semi-nomadic Brokpa communities of Merak and Sakteng, among Bhutan's most culturally distinct populations.
