Trashi Yangtse Dappa and Handicraft Workshop

Trashi Yangtse is Bhutan's most celebrated center for traditional wooden bowl (dappa) making, a craft passed down through generations of skilled artisans. The district's workshops produce the prized turned-wood bowls from special burl wood (locally called "za") that are essential items in Bhutanese culture, used for serving rice, butter tea, and ara (local wine). A high-quality dappa can take weeks to complete and may sell for thousands of Ngultrum. The workshops also produce other wooden crafts and contribute to the district's identity as a hub of Bhutan's thirteen traditional arts (Zorig Chusum).
