Tala Hydroelectric Project

Bhutan's largest hydroelectric power station with an installed capacity of 1,020 MW generated by six Francis turbines on the Wang Chhu river. Built as an India-Bhutan bilateral project, it generates around 4,865 GWh annually, with the vast majority exported to India and accounting for a significant share of Bhutan's total revenue. The underground powerhouse is fed by a 22 km headrace tunnel from the Tala dam, making it one of the largest underground hydropower projects in South Asia.
