Widely regarded as one of the most difficult long-distance treks in the world, this 356 km route traverses northern Bhutan over 25-30 days, crossing eleven passes above 4,500 m with a completion rate estimated at less than 50% due to early snowfall, altitude sickness, and exhaustion. The trek passes through the remote communities of Lingshi, Laya, and Lunana, offering encounters with yak-herding cultures and views of peaks exceeding 7,000 m along the Tibetan border. The trekking window is limited to September and October, requiring pack animal support with crews of 15-25 people.
