Samdrup Jongkhar Dzong

The administrative dzong of Samdrup Jongkhar district, serving as the seat of both the district administration and the monastic body. Unlike many of Bhutan's ancient fortress-monasteries, the Samdrup Jongkhar Dzong is a relatively modern structure, reflecting the district's development as an administrative center. The dzong houses the district court, the Dzongdag's office, and a small monastic community. Its name means "palace of the wish-fulfilling jewel."
