Sakteng BHU

The Basic Health Unit serving the Brokpa community of Sakteng Gewog in eastern Trashigang Dzongkhag, located within the Sakteng Wildlife Sanctuary. The Brokpa are a semi-nomadic people with distinct cultural traditions, language, and dress who maintain a yak-herding lifestyle at elevations above 3,000 meters. The BHU provides primary care, maternal health, immunization, and emergency services, bridging modern medicine with the community's strong traditions of herbal healing. Healthcare access is particularly critical here given the gewog's remoteness and harsh winter conditions.
