Punatsangchhu-II Hydroelectric Project

A 1,020 MW hydroelectric project under construction downstream of Punatsangchhu-I on the Punatsangchhu (Sunkosh) river, designed to utilize the tailrace discharge from the upstream plant. The Indo-Bhutan bilateral project features six 170 MW Francis turbines and, like its upstream counterpart, has experienced construction delays due to geological complications. Upon completion, the combined Punatsangchhu I and II projects will add over 2,200 MW to Bhutan's generation capacity, roughly doubling the country's total installed hydropower.
