A 1,200 MW mega hydroelectric project under construction on the Punatsangchhu (Sunkosh) river in Wangdue Phodrang district, set to become Bhutan's largest power plant upon completion. The Indo-Bhutan bilateral project has faced significant delays and cost overruns due to geological challenges including a major landslide at the dam site, with the original 2016 completion target repeatedly revised. When operational, it will feature six 200 MW Francis turbines and substantially increase Bhutan's hydropower export capacity to India.
