Bhutan's only remaining natural sal (Shorea robusta) forest, covering 278 km² along the southern border with India in Sarpang and Dagana districts at elevations of 200-1,600 m. This tropical and subtropical lowland sanctuary protects Asian elephants, gaur (Indian bison), golden langurs, chital deer, and the endangered Bengal florican. It connects with Indian protected forests across the border, forming a transboundary conservation landscape critical for large mammal migration corridors.
