The flagship institution for Sowa Rigpa (Buddhist traditional medicine), making Bhutan one of the few countries to formally integrate indigenous healing into its national healthcare system. The hospital offers traditional diagnosis through pulse reading and urinalysis, herbal medicine compounding from over 300 medicinal plant species, moxibustion, acupuncture, and traditional hot-stone baths — all provided free of charge. It also houses the Traditional Medicine Research and Development unit and serves as the hub for a nationwide network of traditional medicine units in all 20 dzongkhags.
