National Environment Commission

The highest decision-making body on all matters relating to the environment in Bhutan, chaired by the Prime Minister. The NEC is responsible for environmental policy, legislation, and standards, ensuring that Bhutan upholds its constitutional mandate to maintain at least 60% of the country under forest cover in perpetuity. It oversees environmental impact assessments, manages Bhutan's climate change commitments, and coordinates the country's status as one of the world's few carbon-negative nations.
