An autonomous government body mandated to promote and protect the rights and wellbeing of women and children in Bhutan. The NCWC drafts legislation on gender equity and child protection, monitors compliance with CEDAW and CRC international conventions, operates a toll-free helpline for gender-based violence, and coordinates the Women and Child Protection Units (WCPUs) established in all 20 dzongkhags. It also manages the Child Adoption Authority and the National Plan of Action for Gender Equality.
