A 720 MW run-of-river hydroelectric plant on the Mangde Chhu river in Trongsa district, one of Bhutan's newest and largest power stations. Built as an Indo-Bhutan bilateral project at a cost of approximately Nu 43 billion and commissioned in 2019, it features four 180 MW Francis turbines and generates approximately 3,000 GWh annually, with electricity exported to India under a 35-year power purchase agreement. Mangdechhu HEP won the Brunel Medal from the Institution of Civil Engineers (UK) in 2020 for excellence in civil engineering.
