Directed by Pawo Choyning Dorji, this 2019 film follows a disenchanted young teacher posted to Lunana, the most remote school in the world at 4,800 m elevation in northern Bhutan, where he discovers purpose and connection through his students and a yak gifted to the classroom. Shot entirely on location in Lunana with non-professional local actors and powered by solar panels (no electricity in the village), the film was nominated for Best International Feature Film at the 94th Academy Awards (2022), making it Bhutan's first-ever Oscar nomination. It won awards at BIFF, London, and Palm Springs film festivals.
