Lhuentse Town

The remote administrative capital of Lhuentse district in northeastern Bhutan, situated at approximately 1,460 m elevation along the Kurichhu river. One of Bhutan's most isolated district capitals, Lhuentse is renowned as the ancestral home of the Wangchuck royal family, with Lhuentse Dzong perched dramatically on a cliff above the river. The district is famous for producing the finest textiles in Bhutan, particularly the kushuthara (brocade) woven by women in Khoma village using intricate supplementary weft techniques passed down through generations.
