Perched dramatically on a rocky outcrop high above the Kuri Chhu river valley in northeastern Bhutan, Lhuentse Dzong is the ancestral home of the Bhutanese royal family — the Wangchuck dynasty traces its origins to Kurtoe in Lhuentse. Built in 1654, the dzong houses the district monastic body and administration. Lhuentse district is celebrated for producing Bhutan's finest textiles, particularly the exquisite Kishuthara silk brocade woven by women of Khoma village, considered among the most intricate handwoven fabrics in the world.
