One of the highest-altitude schools in Bhutan, serving the semi-nomadic Layap community in Gasa district at approximately 3,800 meters elevation. The Layap people are a distinctive ethnic group known for their conical bamboo hats, yak herding, and unique customs. The school provides basic education to Layap children who would otherwise have no access to formal schooling, as Laya is accessible only by a multi-day trek from the nearest road. The school operates under challenging conditions including heavy snowfall and limited supply access during winter months.
