Laya BHU

The Basic Health Unit serving the Layap community in Laya Gewog, Gasa Dzongkhag, at approximately 3,800 meters elevation. The Layap are one of Bhutan's most culturally distinct highland groups, known for their unique conical bamboo hats and yak-herding lifestyle. The BHU provides primary healthcare, maternal services, and emergency care to approximately 2,500 people in one of Bhutan's most isolated settlements, accessible only by a three-day trek from the nearest road. Health workers at Laya BHU also coordinate seasonal outreach to even more remote pastoralist camps.
