Kurichhu Hydroelectric Plant

A 60 MW run-of-river hydroelectric plant on the Kurichhu river in eastern Bhutan, the first hydropower project in the eastern region. Built as an India-Bhutan bilateral project and commissioned in 2002, it features four Francis turbines generating approximately 400 GWh annually. The project brought significant economic benefits to the previously underdeveloped eastern dzongkhags and demonstrated the hydropower potential of Bhutan's eastern river systems, paving the way for larger future projects in the region.
