Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten

A three-story chorten built between 1999 and 2004 on a hilltop in the Punakha Valley by Queen Mother Ashi Tshering Yangdon Wangchuck to ward off negative forces and promote world peace. The structure is considered an architectural masterpiece of Bhutanese religious art, with each floor containing elaborate paintings, statues, and mandalas depicting wrathful and peaceful deities according to Nyingma Buddhist iconography. Reached by a beautiful 45-minute walk through rice paddies and across a suspension bridge over the Mo Chhu, the chorten offers panoramic views of the Punakha Valley.
