Bhutan's oldest technical institution, originally established in 1974 as the Royal Bhutan Polytechnic with Swiss Helvetas development assistance. Renamed in 1991 in honor of the father of Bhutan's first king, it was upgraded to a full engineering college and RUB constituent member in 2012. JNEC offers diploma and bachelor's degree programs in civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering, having trained generations of engineers who built much of Bhutan's road and hydropower infrastructure.
