The portion of the Jigme Khesar Strict Nature Reserve that falls within northern Lhuentse district, encompassing pristine alpine and subalpine ecosystems along the Tibetan border. Established in 2017 and named after the current King of Bhutan, the reserve protects critical habitat for endangered species including the snow leopard, red panda, musk deer, and black-necked crane. The area is virtually uninhabited and accessible only by multi-day treks through remote mountain passes above 4,000 metres.
