Gom Kora

A sacred temple and meditation site on the banks of the Kholong Chhu river, believed to be where Guru Rinpoche meditated and subdued a local demon in the 8th century. The temple complex is built around a large black rock bearing what devotees regard as the body imprint of Guru Rinpoche. Gom Kora hosts an annual tshechu festival in the third month of the Bhutanese calendar that draws large crowds, including devotees from across the border in Arunachal Pradesh. The scenic riverside setting amid subtropical vegetation makes it one of eastern Bhutan's most atmospheric pilgrimage sites.
