A gentle 1-2 hour walk through the glacial Phobjikha Valley starting from Gangtey Monastery, descending through blue pine and bamboo forest to the valley floor at approximately 2,900 m. This easy trail is particularly popular from late October to mid-February when 300-500 endangered black-necked cranes winter in the valley after migrating from the Tibetan Plateau. The Royal Society for Protection of Nature operates a crane observation center along the route with telescopes for viewing.
