Faculty of Traditional Medicine, KGUMSB

The Faculty of Traditional Medicine at the Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Sciences of Bhutan (KGUMSB) is the sole institution training practitioners of Sowa Rigpa, the traditional Buddhist medical system. The six-year Bachelor of Traditional Medicine program covers classical texts on pulse diagnosis, urinalysis, herbal pharmacology, moxibustion, and the philosophical foundations of Buddhist healing. Graduates are deployed to traditional medicine units across all 20 dzongkhags, ensuring every district has access to both modern and traditional healthcare — a dual system that is unique to Bhutan and integral to its Gross National Happiness approach to wellbeing.
