An independent constitutional body responsible for the preparation, maintenance, and periodic revision of electoral rolls and the conduct of elections to Parliament and local government. Established under Article 24 of the 2008 Constitution, the ECB supervised Bhutan's historic first democratic elections in 2008, transitioning the country from an absolute monarchy to a constitutional democratic monarchy. It regulates political parties, enforces campaign finance laws, and administers the unique two-round parliamentary election system.
