The administrative capital of Tsirang district in south-central Bhutan, located at approximately 1,520 m elevation on a ridge with views of the Punatsangchhu valley below. Damphu serves as the district headquarters with government offices centered around Damphu Dzong, and functions as a market town for the surrounding agricultural communities growing citrus fruits, cardamom, and rice. The town has grown steadily with improved road connections to Wangdue Phodrang in the north and Gelephu in the south.
