The administrative capital of Dagana district in south-central Bhutan, situated at approximately 1,400 metres elevation on a ridge amid subtropical and warm broadleaf forests. The town centres around the historic Dagana Dzong, built in 1651, and houses the district administration, hospital, court, schools, and basic commercial establishments. Despite improved road connections, Dagana remains one of the more remote district capitals, with a small but ethnically diverse population reflecting the coexistence of Ngalop and Lhotshampa communities.
