The secondary and tertiary referral center for Bhutan's six south-central dzongkhags — Sarpang, Tsirang, Dagana, Zhemgang, Trongsa, and Bumthang — with a capacity of approximately 150 beds. It provides general medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, orthopedics, and emergency services as part of Bhutan's constitutionally guaranteed free healthcare system. The hospital has gained strategic importance with the development of Gelephu Mindfulness City and is slated for significant expansion.
